Tips to Get Out of a Mom Funk

You know those days that you wake up and really just don’t give a fudge about anything? Like anything at all? And you just want to lay there in your blob of nothingness and stare blankly at the ceiling as life passes by? That momma, means you need a massage. Not a 2 second massage from you leaning on something hard to get knots out, you need a professional massage and full spa day! I know you probably think I am crazy, but it would certainly motivate you to get out of bed, wouldn’t it? As moms, I know the luxury of getting a spa day is dreamy and well out of the average reach (we are moms, these days don’t usually exist) but they are needed. And since we all can’t escape to a spa getaway for our physical needs maybe and even more importantly we take a spa day for our minds, our hearts and our spirits. If you are laying in a blob of nothingness just hear me out alright. Yes, it is so insanely exhausting raising our offspring, it is the most fun too, isn’t it?! Now maybe you aren’t laying in blob of nothingness but you might be binge drinking coffee to survive and even the coffee isn’t helping the struggle. I was there recently.

A mental spa break and spiritual vacation are the feel goods you can do when the kiddos are sleeping or after they go down for the night. Or you can wake up early and get you some “me time” in (best time to do it)! Simple things you can implement daily to get that feeling of being a blob all day outta here! One being to play some uplifting and positive music. Easiest way to life those spirits! I am not talking about heavy metal scream-o music though mmmk? I’m talking about those feel good jams like, “ain’t no mountain high enough” “if you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain…” these kind of feel goods! If you have spotify there are TONS of “positive vibes” playlists to chose from. Heck make your own! If you are from my generation, throw on some backstreets back and I’ll tell ya what I want what I really really want. I promise you’ll start dancing. Can you name those songs? Comment below if you know what I’m talking about! Putting these types of songs and this type of music on during your days of drudgery will help clear the fog out of your brain and get the feel goods flowing. Your kids will enjoy seeing mommy having a good time too.

Another great way to get out of your dungeon of misery and whoa is me mentality is to throw on a motivational podcast. Yes, I know it sounds so cliché but it works mmk just trust me and try it! Go to YouTube and look up motivational videos if you need to. JUST DO SOMETHING! As they say, garbage in equals garbage out. Good vibes in equals good vibes out. Quit with the Kardashians and Reality TV, it is literally rotting your brain. Instead of watching those types of things, start switching it out with some positive videos. They are addicting, I can also promise you that! Especially if you haven’t had any feel good vibes in your realm in a while.

As a mom we are always looking for some fun things for our kids to do to “keep them busy”. Why not look for some fun things for you to do to keep you feeling good?! For instance, if you are looking for things for all of you to do together, make it more about you than your kids. Try out a cool family art class so you can all tap into your creative sides. If you are a part of a gym,  drop the kids off at the daycare and bounce (for the max time of course). Play “bad mom” and go see that movie you have been wanting to watch. Or go get that spa day and massage you have been dying to have.

Tap into your creative side and sing, make videos, start a blog, draw, paint do something that taps into your artistic side and use it as an outlet of your stress and feelings of being overwhelmed. For me personally, I have found a love for making movies. I love filming, editing and watching my creations so I started a YouTube channel! It is very therapeutic for me and it is something I enjoy doing. Try something new out that you have always thought was fun. Get that hobby started when your kids are sleeping. Since starting my Fitness challenge I have found my meal prepping time to be very relaxing. I have my mindless show on in the background or a motivational podcast/video if I am behind on my intake and get to cooking. I do this after everyone has gone to bed (usually start around 9-10pm) and finish around midnight or so. The room is quite, I can cook in peace, watch whatever I am watching without being interrupted by anyone and just breath in the calmness of the moment.

It is things like this that will keep you out of that nothingness blob of funk. Try these out and let me know which one you found to be the most helpful for you. Each one serves a different purpose in healing that emotional tear, the stress, the defeat, the overwhelming to-do list and they all cure the soul. I promise if you are feeling down, take some time out for yourself and use these tips to get the feel goods flowing again. As always beautiful, cheers!
