Our Trip to San Antonio Texas and Tips on Things TO-DO

As we packed up and headed to LAX everything was going smoothly! Then as soon as we drove into the LAX nightmare, that is exactly how our travels began, a nightmare. Sparing you the long, horrendous details, 5 hours later (from time left house) we were at our gate and boarding for Texas!  Side tip: do not EVER forget the bottle on the plane. EVER. If you didn’t know already I am from the best state ever, yes Texas! I have just as much Texas pride as if I still lived there… you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the girl! Truth.

Day one and the original reason we were heading to the greatest state in America was for my longest friend’s wedding! Before the wedding we ran some errands to get ready for Michaels birthday and I had to take Kevin to a San Antonio staple, Mamma Margie’s. I love this place for the margaritas, tacos and free chips! No, it is actually a place many frequent late at night after a few cocktails. We stopped after running errands for a quick frozen margarita and some tasty chips and salsa. The wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and she was stunning! It was held at La Cantera Resort and the venue was just breathtaking. We danced the night away, made some great memories and I got to see my bestest buddy get married! Instead of going home, we were summoned to join a friend out for a few more cocktails and had a great time catching up!15311794452386883424308557012496.jpg

The next day was a little bit of a slow start, but as a parent there is never a late start.. just a slow one. So, we were up by ten am and starting to get moving. Lunch was scheduled for 1230 and at an old established spot called La Fogata. They have the best voted margaritas in San Antonio! A must when you visit! Located about 10 minutes from the airport and downtown, it is a perfect place to catch the authentic feel of San Antonio. Which is exactly was I was hoping for with Kevin’s Ohio native family joining us. Lunch was a splendid time and Michael loved getting sang happy birthday to! After lunch a nap was needed but coffee had to do because it was party time! You can check out all about Michaels first birthday and how it went in this post. It was a perfect day and I couldn’t of asked for a better turnout!

The rest of the week seemed to fly by! It always does when you are visiting home, doesn’t it? There is never enough time to catch up and do all the things you want in just one trip! Monday was no day short of fun though! Kevin needed to experience the best waterpark in the world Schliterbahn and so as a native, I had to take him! I grew up going to this waterpark and have always enjoyed my time. You can bring your own food and drinks and picnic up too! This is a definite must do as a separate trip or a longer trip to Texas if you are going during the summer. They have cottages you can stay at right on the water and just jump into the park as soon as you wake up! We lucked out completely that Monday because it was expected to rain (like 90% chance) but if you know anything about Texas, the weather is the top person you can never trust. It in fact did not rain at all and was sunny and 85! The lucky part for us was because of the predicted rain there were NO LINES! As a person who grew up going to this waterpark, not standing in line at least an hour for the Master Blaster was shocking. We only stood in line for 10 minutes MAX the entire day! Talk about VIP in the park! No lines all access in a waterpark?! You bet we were the biggest kids the entire running around all 3 parks. We started in the original park, which is my favorite. The rides all use natural river water and many of them finish in the river too! They wind, twist and shoot you down fun rapids and slides and all last at least 10 minutes! My 15311790015581695804394469951638.jpgfavorite ride in the entire park is the WhiteWater Rapids. It is action packed and has huge slides throughout the whole ride. It is the very first ride you see when you turn left into the park and ah I just love it! Another one of my favorites is the Dragon Blaster (it has a new name, but I forget what it is). This was the first ever water coaster built! It is located in the second park, Boogie Bahn. Kevin and I had the best time ever all day. Kevin didn’t think you could spend 8 hours at a waterpark and I successfully proved him wrong. Oh yea! By the way, I love theme parks and action rides and Kevin loves sporting events so this was our first time to an actual theme park. After a long and exciting day in the best water park ever, we headed to a local brewery to grab dinner and a drink. It was flipping delicious! I had a blackened catfish sandwich and Kevin had a burger and we both enjoyed a local Texas beer.

Tuesday flew by and Wednesday my dad and Kevin went to play golf while my mom and I took Michael to a really neat place called the Doseum! It is a full sensory activation explore place for kids! Michael was a little young for most of the things but we took him around to explore and show him all the cool rooms and areas. He had the BEST time in LittleTown. 1531179654879721742646193996475.jpgIt was the cutest thing ever! They had a mini grocery store, airport, construction zone, bank, post office, meat market, roads and kid cars, a vet, anything and everything! All Michael wanted to do was smash the grocery cart into the walls and ride around in the cars. So that is exactly what we did for almost 2 hours lol. If you are visiting with kids, this is a must do! The price isn’t too expensive ($14 for adults), and you could be there all day if you wanted to! My mom and I had a fantastic time showing Michael all the different types of rooms they had and he had a great time, obviously.

When Thursday came Kevin headed off to Austin for his friends bachelor party and I got to catch up with family Thursday and Friday. It was the best time getting to see my family! Some I hadn’t seen in over 6 years! Saturday was my day to relax and hang out with friends, and we had such a fun time! If you have never been to Texas, it is hot in the summer. 15311791722953125379572818586390.jpgOne of the most frequented outings is by a body of water which for us happened to be the river! Floating the river was something I probably did every other day during my college years and I wanted to go back and float once again. We finally got there around 5 because I left my purse at home (slaps forehead) and we had to go back. Floating the Comal actually runs right along Schliterbahn (the waterpark Kevin and I went to) and is the water used for their rides! After the fun entertaining float down the ol’ Comal, my friend and I went to grab a quick bite to eat before heading out for some dancing! After finally getting ready… like 2 hours later it was already I think midnight and we just went to a place close by. You definitely know you’re the minority when the DJ yells over the mic, “shout out to the white girls walking in!” …. ummm haha. He was playing some great dancing music and we had a blast for being completely out of element to say the least!

Sunday came quick and as soon as I got home to see my little man, we were on our way to grab Kevin and head to Michaels first time to Chuck E Cheese! Michael loved the dance floor and was in aw of Chucky. To be honest, I was kind of bummed with the way they have changed the place up. What happened to all the fun jungle gyms and rides for the kids!? Sad face. He had a great time it seemed like since he crashed as soon as we got into the car. As our trip winded down to the end we relaxed with my parents and headed to bed early for an early flight back to California which was at 5:50 am. Insert rolling of the eyes here. I miss Texas already, but am stoked to be going back for Christmas! As always beautiful, cheers!
