Should You Go “ALL-OUT” For a First Birthday?

Hey mommas. What is up? Wow I sound like a cool mom with that intro… sigh. I am officially getting old OMG! You know though, being “old-ish” is pretty fun stuff. I know what I like, don’t like, I’ve learned lessons to teach my little man, I’ve accomplished some pretty cool things, and I can rent a car (which I have for awhile but who needs the specifics). We had an AMAZING trip to Texas for a bunch of exciting events and Michaels first birthday! Hints why I went on a tangent about my youth going out of stock. Really though, I feel as though I am just entering my prime. How do you feel about your current age?

Enjoying a nice dinner at La Fogata in San Antonio for Michaels Birthday

Back to Michaels first birthday. Man was it so much fun! I will be completely honest, I threw it together. All I knew I wanted was for Michaels family to be there and I wanted it to be a good time of celebration. So, come February, my sister is already calling and wanting plans for his first birthday (which is in June). My response since her first call was something like… “umm I have no idea. I want there to be a smash cake?” Then both grandmas started asking what the theme was and all the other fun planning that needed to happen. I got around to it eventually, a week before we left for Texas but guess what, it got done! Why? Because I am a busy little momma bee. Now why I was so ecstatic to be planning his first birthday, I think deep down I didn’t want it to really be happening. My little baby would officially not be my little baby anymore… wah! Insert sobbing emoji. I think my lack of lets get it done was from wanting to hold onto my little man being deemed an infant just a little longer. Just as sad as I was to face reality of a year already gone by, I was equally as thrilled to welcome my little man as a one year old.

All the new milestones and exciting new activities that are in store with his new phases makes me so happy! I am sure you may be able to relate a little to this, at least I hope I’m not the only one. So finally time is getting to a crunch and I make my way over to Party City to see what selection they have for boys first birthdays. They have Sesame Street and Mickey, that is it. So, it was a simple choice, blue Mickey themed birthday it was! And Michael looked too cute in the Mickey hat to say no to it. Originally, I was dead set on having a surfing puppies themed birthday… turns out that isn’t a common theme. Now did I go all out for his first birthday? No, not really. I did go all out on the smash cake though, yassss girl!

He LOVED eating his smash cake! He was the cutest

I like doing things big, even if it is a small thing, it has to be just right and it has to be exactly as I envision it. Seriously, I get so bummed if it doesn’t happen. I bought all the possible Mickey themed party decorations that Party City had and ordered the cute Mickey themed jumbo ballons (which I forgot to use at the party). Side note, if you are choosing a theme for the party, grab all the cute stuff from designated area and get all your cups, utensils, and extra napkins from the color themed aisle. They are a forth of the price and match exactly, yay mom hack! Do I think you should go all out on a first birthday party? No. The party isn’t specifically for your child, it is for you. Make it an enjoyable day for yourself. They aren’t going to remember turning one, you will though. My biggest thing was having family there, good food and a good time. Which is exactly what happened. And Michael had an absolute blast the entire time.

Playing in the splash pad/pool after the cake smash (easy clean up wink wink) and he LOVED it

My advice to you if you are coming up on a first birthday, do something you are going to enjoy looking back on. Don’t freight too much about the theme, the extravagant balloon display, a crazy expensive stressful day of coordinating. Just have a good old-fashioned celebration with the ones you want to celebrate with. Have a smash cake though, those are a blast for everyone involved. Keep it simple and have FUN! Fun is what living is all about! If you really think about it, you are celebrating the day you became a mother, so enjoy it and celebrate your greatest blessing that made you a mom. As always beautiful, cheers!
